The evolution in duty-free shopping in America could be told through the experience of EJE’s legendary founder Ed Holder. It was in 1972 when he started in airport retailing with new and gift stores, then in 1978 that he started in the business at Newark Liberty International airport with three employees and a pushcart full of liquor, tobacco and perfume. Fast-forward 25 years and EJE retail owns a multitude of duty-free retail stores and employs almost 100 people. As the only minority and family-owned duty free business of its kind in North America, EJE holds the keys to personalized family values. At the helm today is Ed Holder’s nephew Janus Holder, who is charged with carrying the traditional torch of dedication and commitment with a modern day twist that is now called ‘travel retail’.
